Calculate your business mileage allowance.
Enter your business mileage for the amount at HMRC's approved rates for cars and vans, including the lower rate that applies after 10,000 miles.
Worth knowing
For cars and vans, the approved mileage rate applies to your first 10,000 business miles in the tax year, with a lower rate for any miles above that. The limit applies to the person travelling rather than separately to each vehicle they use.
These mileage rates are intended for business journeys made in your own vehicle. If the business owns the vehicle and pays its running costs, different rules apply and this isn’t the right calculation to use.
Not every journey counts as business mileage. Normal travel between your home and a permanent workplace is generally treated as commuting, while journeys made for work can qualify depending on the circumstances.
Different rates apply to other vehicles. Motorcycles have their own mileage rate, as do bicycles, so make sure you’re using the appropriate figure for the vehicle you travelled in.
This calculator is a guide rather than tax advice. HMRC rules and rates can change, so check the current guidance or speak to your accountant if you’re unsure whether a journey or expense qualifies.
